Chief Warrant Officer Jim Dorrance was born in Dumfries, Scotland. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve in 1978. He then transferred to the Regular Force in November 1984 and was posted to Calgary, Alberta with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians).
Chief Warrant Officer Dorrance’s various appointments during his service with the Regiment include: Troop Warrant Officer A, B and Reconnaissance Squadrons; Regimental Gunnery Warrant Officer; Squadron Sergeant-Major B Squadron; Squadron Sergeant-Major Headquarters Squadron; and TQMS.
Chief Warrant Officer Dorrance’s extra regimental appointments include a year-long French course followed by a tour of duty with the 12e Regiment Blindé Du Canada in Valcartier, Quebec as the Regimental Operations Warrant Officer with the First Hussars in London, Ontario as a student on the Army Technical Warrant Officer’s course at the Royal Military College of Canada, and most recently, as the Crewman Career Manager in Ottawa.
Chief Warrant Officer Dorrance has deployed on overseas operations to include Cyprus in 1988 as a Section 2IC, Bosnia in1993 as Troop Sergeant as part of the United Nations Protection Force, Bosnia in 1997 as Troop Warrant Officer in Reconnaissance Squadron, and Sudan in 2005 as part of a United Nations Technical Assistance Visit.
CWO Dorrance and his wife Gabriela have two sons, Stewart and Sean.
