Captain J.D.P. McBride
Strathcona Mounted Troop Leader
Captain Jeremy McBride grew up in Kingston, ON, and is the first person from their immediate family to be a part of the military. Upon enrollment in the CAF in 2016, he studied psychology at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) for his undergraduate degree. During his time at RMC he was a part of the Men’s Varsity Soccer team, accumulating over 50 starts in the league. Upon graduation in 2020, COVID delayed his training for Armoured Troop Leading at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, but in the beginning of 2021, he started phase training. He initally completed the Crew Commander course on tanks, and then completed the Recce Troop Leader course on Light Armoured Vehicles. Once these courses were finished, he was subsequently posted to the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in Edmonton, Alberta.
Upon arrival at the Unit, he went to the field to experience the Combat Team Commander’s Course, where he was with the Battle Group Commander for the duration of the exercise. Shortly after this was completed in the fall of 2021, British Columbia started to flood, and the Unit was called out as the Immediate Response Unit. He became the Regimental Duty Officer in Aldergrove, BC for the duration of that Domestic Operation, coordinating reports from 7 different sub-units.
As these events wrapped up, he became the Liaison Officer for Headquarters Squadron, predominantly working with Maintenance Troop. Starting in the summer of 2022, he moved into B Sqn as Third Troop Leader and had the pleasure of participating in the Lvl 5 Ranges, and Ex MAPLE RESOLVE 23 with 5 Brigade. He then moved into Mounted Troop on 19 July 23, just after the Calgary Stampede and the North American tournament at Spruce Meadows. He previously lived on a farm while growing up in Kingston, Ontario, and is looking forward to working with the horses and Strathcona Mounted Troop in this upcoming year.
