Major A.P. Berube

Officer Commanding A Squadron

Major Andre Berube joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 2007. Following officer training and graduation from the Royal Military College of Canada, he was badged into the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada. From 2013 to 2016 he served as a troop leader for reconnaissance and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) troops and subsequently as a battle captain. During this period, he led armoured troop training across live-fire ranges and collective exercises, supported squadron operations from the command post, and contributed to fleet readiness and unit standards.

In 2016 Major Berube was posted to Canadian Army Headquarters in Ottawa, working within the G1 branch on Regular Force policy and personnel management. From 2016 to 2018 he coordinated staffing actions and supported career administration across the Army. He released from the CAF in 2018 and served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Returning to the CAF in 2019, he was posted to the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School (RCACS). From 2019 to 2022 he instructed on Armoured Corps qualification training, contributed to lesson plan development, and supported standards and evaluations. In 2021 he re-badged to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians).

Major Berube returned to regimental duty with LdSH(RC) in 2022. From 2022 to 2025 he served as a squadron second-in-command, including employment as Headquarters Squadron 2IC and periods as an Acting Officer Commanding. In these roles he managed personnel administration, training synchronization, sustainment, and equipment readiness for Canada’s only tank regiment, enabling high-tempo unit training and support to formation activities. He was promoted to the rank of Major in December 2024.

From May 2023 to March 2024, Major Berube deployed to Latvia on Op REASSURANCE. He served initially as Acting Task Force J3, and subsequently as J33, supporting plans and synchronization across Task Force Latvia. His duties included integration with allied partners, development of the Tank Sqn (-) deployment, and coordination across lines of effort to maintain readiness and interoperability throughout the rotation.

Following his return from deployment, Major Berube was employed as Acting Officer Commanding Headquarters Squadron at LdSH(RC). He most recently served as the G35 and G5-3 at 3rd Canadian Division Headquarters, where he supported operational planning and tasking alignment across the division and contributed to the development of directives and the synchronization of activities across subordinate formations.

Major Berube holds a Bachelor of Arts in Military Psychology and Leadership from the Royal Military College of Canada. His professional development includes the progressive Armoured Corps qualification pathway and staff training commensurate with his appointments.

Major Berube is married to Michelle Berube, a veteran emergency room nurse. They share their home with a Bernese Mountain Dog and two cats. Outside of work he trains in powerlifting and CrossFit, having competed nationally in 2017-18, and he enjoys board games and miniature wargaming.
