Canadian Pacific & Strathcona Student Scholarship Program 2018
By Captain Colin Peterson
Canadian Pacific and the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) once again had the exceptionally difficult task of choosing this year’s recipients for the Canadian Pacific & Strathcona Student Scholarship. Although it was an in-depth and painstaking process, their hard work paid off with the selection of the following three amazing recipients:
It is a great honour to congratulate the three recipients of this year’s scholarship. Mrs. Emer Burke was presented her award by the Regimental Second in Command, Major Alfred Wong and the Regimental Sergeant-Major, Chief Warrant Officer Rob Clarke, at the Harvey Building in the presence of numerous Regimental Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers. Ms. Amelia Dangerfield accepted her cheque from Captain Andrew Tardiff in a presentation ceremony in Vancouver, B.C. Ms. Kathleen Donald received her scholarship cheque from the Commander of the 5th Canadian Division, Brigadier-General Derek Macaulay, in a ceremony in Halifax, N.S.
All of these amazing individuals were selected by a panel of Regimental Society and Canadian Pacific representatives. They were selected based on academic standing, career and educational goals, community service involvement, and level of financial need. Emer, Kathleen, and Amelia all clearly exemplify the values inherent to the scholarship program. These three recipients are also excellent examples of how our Strathcona family reaches from coast to coast, and how the hard work and perseverance that we show daily here at the Regiment is on display right across Canada.
Canadian Pacific and Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) will continue to offer this scholarship in perpetuity. For future years’ iterations, we wish to reach as many people as possible. We encourage sharing this notice and other information on the scholarship program with all serving and retired members and their loved ones.
Once again, on behalf of Canadian Pacific, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Regimental Society, and the entire Regimental family, congratulations to Emer, Kathleen, and Amelia! The Strathconas would also like to thank Canadian Pacific for their generous partnership with the Regimental Society. Their continued contributions allows the scholarship program to continue to improve our communities.
Perseverance,
