Laurent Charette joined the Canadian Forces in 2002, and following BMQ and DP1 was posted to LdSH(RC) in 2003 where he was successively employed as a driver in transport troop, a tank driver and a tank gunner.

In 2006, Cpl Charette was posted to the RCACS in Gagetown. During his time at the Armour School, he was employed in various positions, including Ammo NCO, where he was responsible for the delivery of all munitions and pyros for various courses. He has also held the position of Ops MCpl and spent some time at the Panzertruppenshule in Germany to train on the new Leopard 2A6Ms.

In 2009, MCpl Charette was posted to 12^e RBC in Valcartier in preparation for the deployment of a Tank Squadron to Kandahar Afghanistan, where he was employed as Z39C. Upon his return in 2011, MCpl Charette was employed as a Crew Commander and a Patrol Commander in A Sqn. In 2012 he participated in the Worthington’s Challenge gunnery competition where his crew placed second.

In 2013, Sgt Charette took the position of Mission Specialist with 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron where he had the responsibility to train and mentor door gunners and advise aircrews on ground operations and tactics.

Warrant Officer Charette’s next bound took him to 3 CDTC in Wainwright in 2016. After being employed as a course WO for various junior leadership courses, he subsequently held the positions of Quarter Master Sgt (CQMS) and Standard WO for 3 CAN DIV.

Upon his return to the Regiment in 2019, WO Charette was employed as a Troop WO with 61 and 63 within Recce Sqn, but this posting was just a short stop.

Warrant Officer Charette was then posted to NATO HQ in Brussels, Belgium, in 2020. He held the position of Watch assistant in NATO HQ’s situation room, advising the Situation Center duty officer and keeping the Alliance leadership’s situational awareness at a high level. His duties also included being the unit Sergeant Major for the Canadians of the International Military Staff.

MWO Charette is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in administration and management, and lives with his wife Valerie and daughter Emily in Morinville.
