Chief Warrant Officer Tony Batty was born in Halifax UK on 16 Feb 1961, and joined the British Army in Sept 1977. Upon completion of basic training he was posted to Herford (West Germany) where he joined B Sqn of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment (1RTR). While in 1 RTR he completed numerous courses and deployed to Northern Ireland and the Persian Gulf during Operation Granby.
CWO Batty, retired from the British Army in 1992 and shortly thereafter joined the Primary Reserve and was employed as the Operations Warrant Officer for A Squadron South Alberta Light Horse. It was during this time frame that CWO Batty took a full time class B position at Wainwright and then decided to component transfer. In July of 1997 then Sgt Batty joined the Regiment in Edmonton and was posted to B Sqn as a Troop Sgt, he remained with B Sqn until the Sqn was re-rolled as a Recce Sqn in preparation for a deployment to Bosnia later that year. Upon return from Bosnia he was sent on year long language training, promoted to Warrant Officer and was posted to 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (408 THS) as the Lead Mission Specialist. Further deployments to Bosnia ensued and in 2005 now Warrant Officer Batty was posted back to the Regiment as SQMS B Sqn.
After a short stint as SQMS he was moved into the position as Regimental Operations Warrant Officer, where remained until the spring of 2007, when he was appointed Squadron Sergeants Major (SSM) B Squadron. In 2008 he deployed to Afghanistan as SSM and on return to Canada was appointed as SSM Recce followed shortly thereafter as Headquarters SSM during Op Podium.
In the summer of 2010 CWO Batty was posted to Wainwright as an Observer Controller Trainer (OCT) with Canadian Manoeuvre Training Center (CMTC). CWO Batty attended second language training in 2012 prior to being posted back to Wainwright in the later part of the year.
Chief Warrant Officer Batty took over the responsibilities of RSM of LdSH(RC) on June 17th, 2013.
CWO Batty and his wife Kathy have 2 children, Dion and Breanne. They enjoy playing soccer all year round.
