Major J.A. Anderson

Maj Anderson was born in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 2001 and graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario in 2005. He joined Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) upon completing phase training in 2006, where he spent the next three years as a Reconnaissance Troop Leader, Regimental Training Officer, and deployed to Afghanistan on Task Force 1-08 as a Tank Troop Leader with the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group.
Following his deployment he was employed at the 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (CMBG) Headquarters in Edmonton as a staff officer and the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Center in Wainwright, Alberta as an Observer Controller Trainer (OCT) mentoring Regular and Reserve Force Armoured Troop Leaders on mechanized warfare, and as the Second in Command (2IC) of the Contemporary Operating Environment Force (COEFOR).
Upon return to the LdSH(RC) in 2013, he was employed as the Battle Captain and 2IC for A Sqn during its Road to High Readiness training, and completed the Army Operations Course. He assumed the position of Adjutant of Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in his final year at the Regiment until returning to 1 CMBG HQ and deployment on Op REASSURANCE in 2017. Upon return to Canada, he was employed as the OCT Armoured Team Leader at CMTC until being brought back to the Regiment to assume command of B Sqn.
Maj Anderson’s wife Violetta is a Registered Nurse in Edmonton. They have two children, Michael and Victoria, as well their faithful dog. He enjoys hunting, riding his motorcycle, and taking every available opportunity to develop Close Quarter Combat skills within the Regiment.
