Lieutenant-Colonel J.J. Major, CD

Commanding Officer, 2014-2016

Lieutenant-Colonel Josh Major was born in North Bay, Ontario. He joined the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada as a Troop Leader after completing phase training in 1999.  He spent the next three years as a Reconnaissance Troop Leader, Assault Troop Leader and Recce Squadron Liaison Officer. His first Regimental tour culminated in 2002 with a deployment to Bosnia (Op PALLADIUM Roto X) as the Recce Sqn LO. Upon his return to Canada, Josh was posted to the Armour School where he held the positions of tactics instructor, Recce Troop Leader, and Recce Standards Officer.

Posted back to the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada for his second Regimental tour, Josh completed initial high-readiness training with TF 4-06 as Recce Squadron 2IC prior to joining the first Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team. Deploying in August 2006, he assumed the duties of the OMLT Operations Officer, as well as the OMLT JTAC. Upon redeployment, he served as the Regimental Operations Officer for 16 months before taking command of A Sqn in 2008 immediately upon promotion to Major. After one year of command, Josh deployed with TFK HQ 6-09 as the J33. He assumed the position of Regimental 2IC upon his return from Afghanistan, prior to attending several professional education courses with the U.S. Army. Promoted to his current rank in 2013, Josh’s latest extra-Regimental tour was as the Army Training Authority Detachment Ottawa Section Head. He proudly became a member of the Strathcona family on January 22nd 2014.

Josh holds a B.A. from the Royal Military College of Canada, a Master’s degree in International Relations from Webster University, and a Master of Military Art and Science degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He has completed the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College, U.S. Cavalry Leader’s course, Forward Air Controller course, and is a graduate of both the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and School of Advanced Military Studies.

Josh is in a common-law relationship with Chantal Milliard of Quebec City, Quebec. He has three children; Léa age 10, Daphné age 8, and Jacob age 5. Josh enjoys all things fitness related and still attempts to play competitive hockey although age has begun to dull his already average skills.
