Headquarters Squadron Update
By MCpl Thomas Michael
19 October 2009
With a fast paced September coming to an end, Headquarters Squadron has seen some changes over the past month. On 3 September 2009, we saw the retirement of Cpl Anthony (Tony) Auld, a soldier respected by all and friends with everyone. All of us in Headquarters Squadron, as well as the Regiment, wish Tony all the best in his future endeavours.
Headquarters Squadron is now stood up with approximately seventy-five new personnel from Reserve Units across Canada, and individual training is under way for Task Force Vancouver, the 2010 Winter Olympics, where we will be giving a helping and supporting hand to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On 15 September 2009, during our Regimental Parade, Headquarters Squadron had a few promotions and awards given to its soldiers. Cpl Matthew Berkshire received his promotion to Corporal and receiving the rank of Master Corporal was MCpl Anthony Lister. Our Commanding Officer, LCol Derek Macaulay also presented the CO’s Coin to Cpl Lee Heffernan and MCpl Mark Fardy, for their contribution, dedication and hard work with this year’s Ex MOUNTAIN MAN Competition. MCpl Jason Helliwell, who is attached out to the Military Family Resource Center, was presented with the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command Commendation for his actions during an ambush while in Afghanistan on 28 September 2008.
Congratulates also went to MCpl Patrick Walsh from the Technical Quarter Masters Shop, who became a father to a baby boy, Ryland Patrick George Walsh, weighing 7 lbs 4 oz. on 8 August 2009.
