Major S.G. Long, CD
Commanding Officer, 2005-2006
Major Scott Long was born in St. John’s, Nfld. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1988 and was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Canadian Armour Corps upon completion of phase training in December 1989. In January 1990, he was posted to the LdSH(RC) in Calgary, AB. During his first Regimental tour he served as a tank troop leader and LO in Reconnaissance Squadron. During this tour he also completed the Advanced Armour Gunnery Course and served as the Asst Adjt and Regimental Gunnery Officer. Promoted and posted in 1993 to 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters, Calgary AB, Major Long served in numerous staff positions until June 1995 when he was posted back to the Regiment During his Second Regimental Tour he served as the Battle Captain in Recce Sqn, 2IC Recce Sqn and 2IC HQ Sqn. He deployed with the Regiment in July 1997 as the Camp Commandant of Camp Maple Leaf, ZGON, a camp that housed some 340 soldiers. In June 1999, he was posted to the Adjutant’s position at the Armour School, Gagetown, NB. He was promoted to his current rank in June 1999. After serving as the Chief Standards Officer of the School and as a Phase IV Course Officer, Major Long was posted back to the Regiment in 2001 where he assumed command of B Squadron. In Oct 2002, Major Long re-roled B Squadron to Recce and deployed the squadron overseas for duty in Bosnia. From August 2003 to July 2004, Major Long attended the yearlong french course and upon completion returned to Regimental duty as the Regimental Second-in-Command. In September 2005, Major Long became the Acting Commanding Officer of LdSH(RC). Major Long resides in St. Albert, with his wife Donna and their overly energetic Border Collie named Shadow. |
