LCol P.J. Fleury, CD
Commanding Officer, 2004-2005
LCol Paul Fleury was born in Toronto, Ontario. He was commissioned in 1987 and posted in 1988 to the 8CH in Lahr, West Germany. While there he served as both a tank and reconnaissance troop leader in addition to duties as the Regimental Intelligence Officer. Promoted and posted on exchange in 1991 to the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars of the British Army, he served on both Chieftain and Challenger tanks as a Squadron second-in-command and completed a tour with that Regiment as part of the United Nations Force in Cyprus. Posted to NDHQ in 1993 he served with J2 Defence Intelligence (Arms Control) and J3 Operations (Peacekeeping) respectively. In 1995 he was posted to the Strathcona’s as the Regimental Operations Officer, following staff officer training in Kingston Ontario. Promoted to Major in 1997 he remained as the Operations Officer for the Regiment's deployment to Bosnia as part of the NATO led SFOR operation. On return to Canada, he took command of the Regiment's Reconnaissance Squadron which he led as part of the NATO force assigned to enter Kosovo in June 1999. His squadron received a DCDS Commendation for its performance in Kosovo. In July 2000 he was posted to Army Headquarters in Ottawa. Promoted to LCol in 2001 he completed studies at the Canadian Forces College and was granted a Masters Degree in Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. LCol Fleury returned to NDHQ in July 2002 and assumed command of the Regiment in June 2004. He resides in Aylmer, Quebec with his wife Manon, their son Kyle, and a sheep dog named Vimy. |
