Honing Section Attack Skills
Line of Effort 1 Sect Instructor
At the end April 2017, Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) instructors at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center (IPSC) in Ukraine, successfully planned and executed a challenging and safe live fire section attack range. Canadian mentors from 2 PPCLI and LdSH(RC) were there overseeing the range and mentoring the UAF instructors along the way. Overall the range was a success and gave the UAF section commanders a high tempo training event. The section was supported with SPG-9 Recoilless Rifles providing covering fire as the section moved to and cleared a wire obstacle.
Once through the wire, the section fought their way across almost 700 meters until they reached their objective. Even with the objective destroyed, the enemy was not finished and the section had to deal with a menacing motorized enemy counterattack.
Additionally, prior to the start of the range, a parade was held where Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak presented several awards. UAF soldiers received awards for their actions while fighting in the Donbass Region and the three UAF Rifle Company Commanders where presented with ceremonial pistols in wooden holsters. After that morale was high within the UAF unit and LoE 1 soldiers and their Ukrainian instructor counterparts had a great day in the field.
