The day was 9 Dec 08 and the weather out side was clear and cold. The troops were looking forward to some down time from maintenance to play Regimental sports. The day started off at 08:00hrs at the Regimental Muster Parade with RSM CWO Ramsay giving his talk about team work and fair play. He wished the best of luck to all the messes and may the best mess win.
At 08:15hrs the puck was dropped at Arena B for the battle between the Mariner Room vs. Sarcee Room. The game was a hard one to watch as the Officers looked like they had the game already won during the first period. The Sr NCO’s fought back with Sgt Calow in net but, in the end the Officers won the hockey match.
While all this was happening the Track Pad had their hands full playing broomball against the Green Point Lounge in Arena A. The Green Point Lounge was a little short on MCpls but in the spirt of fair play the Track Pad allowed PLQ qualified Cpls to play on the Green Point Lounge Team. The game was close with a 1-0 win for the Track Pad. The Green Point Lounge played hard and there was no room for error for honour was at stake.
The morning was not all wins for the Officers as they took on the Sarcee Room in broomball. With players like Sgt. Hiscock playing, the Officers did not have a chance. In Arena B the Green Point Lounge was holding their own again, against the Track Pad in hockey. With a final score of 9-3 for the Track Pad.
After lunch all the full contact sports came out like volleyball and soccer. The volleyball team for the Mariner Room came out with players like Lt. Selberg wanting the win so bad they could taste it! The Sarcee Room worked hard to put the Officers through their paces. At the end of the day the Officers took the win.
Cpl Brown was the referee for soccer ensuring that all the games were fair. The Track Pad was victorious over the Green Point Lounge while the Officer took home the gold from the Sr NCO’s. The day came to a close with the Regimental Awards Parade.
The CO, LCol Macaulay and the RSM, CWO Ramsay came out to congratulate all the messes on the teamwork they saw as well as all the hard work that was put in The CO with a smile on his face called up the representative for the Track Pad to congratulate him and his mess for the over all win for the day for the junior ranks. The CO thanked the participation of the Sr NCOs in providing good competition for the Officers.
