Army Ball 2015
Warrant Officer Cordell Boland
During my career I have attended several military functions and dinners, all with high degrees of pageantry and class, however nothing could have prepared me for the spectacle that is the Army Ball. The theme of the Ball this year was a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian and Allied forces in 1945, as well as celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. Hosted by the Commander of the Canadian Army, LGen Hainse, Canadian Army Sergeant-Major, CWO Hornbrook, and their distinguished guest Mr. Kole, the Dutch Ambassador to Canada, participants were treated to a memorable evening of music, song, incredible food, and ceremony.
It was during this event that I had the privilege of representing the Regiment to receive one of four ceremonial sashes bearing the combined Battle Honours of the RCAC along with MWO’s Clarke, Herbst, Doiron, and Sgt Barrette. These sashes will be displayed at the RCACS in Gagetown commemorating the Royal Canadian Armour Corps 75th Anniversary.
After the formal part of the dinner was complete I was able to relax and enjoy the company of my stunning wife Krista and also reconnect with old friends, comrades, and bosses who are currently serving in the Ottawa area. This was an evening that Krista and I will remember for the rest of our days and I would highly recommend attending the Army Ball to anyone who has the opportunity.
