Major ASH Wong
Acting Commanding Officer
Major Alfred Wong was born in Toronto, Ontario and joined the military in 1999 under the Regular Officer Training Program. Upon completion of Phase IV, he was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) as a Tank Troop Leader. After two years of Troop Leading, he deployed with B Squadron as the Squadron Administrative Officer on Task Force 3-06, 1st Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group, as part of the Force Enhancement Package. On redeployment, he was posted to the Royal Canadian Armour School as Directing Staff, where he instructed on Crew Commanding, Troop Leading and Advance Gunnery courses.
In 2009, Major Wong was posted back to the Regiment on his second tour of duty as Battle Captain Reconnaissance Squadron. He deployed on a domestic operation, Op PODIUM, as Battle Captain F Company, Task Force Vancouver, providing security to an Olympic venue. Upon redeployment, he served as Second-in-Command for both B and Headquarters Squadron.
In 2013, Major Wong was posted to 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters as the Brigade Information Management Officer. During High Readiness training, he was employed as G3 Plans. Major Wong was promoted to his current rank in 2014 and posted to the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre as Officer Commanding Contemporary Operating Environment Force. While at CMTC, he caused a nuisance on the battlefield, to provide the primary training audience the natural frictions of asymmetrical threats and attempted to grow a beard.
In 2015, Major Wong was posted back to the Regiment for his third tour of duty. He took command of Headquarters Squadron in July of that year and became the Regimental Second-in-Command in June 2016.
Major Wong is married to the lovely Samantha Wong and they have two children, Abigail and Austin.
